The rule

Kaal Sarp (Kaal Sarpa) dosha is said to form when the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn all lie on one side of the axis joining Rahu and Ketu. The check tests exactly that from your planets' longitudes. It then applies the cancellation used in practice: Jupiter or Venus in a kendra (the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house).

How much weight it carries

Kaal Sarp is a later concept; it is not described in the classical texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, and astrologers differ on how much it matters. Read it alongside the rest of the chart rather than on its own.

Frequently asked questions

What is Kaal Sarp dosha?
It is said to form when all seven planets from the Sun to Saturn lie on one side of the Rahu–Ketu axis in the birth chart.
Is Kaal Sarp dosha in the classical texts?
No. It is a later concept and is not described in texts such as Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, which is why astrologers weigh it differently.
Do I need an exact birth time?
For the pattern itself, rarely: it depends on planetary longitudes, and only the Moon moves much in a day. The cancellation depends on houses, though, and houses need an accurate birth time.
Does Kaal Sarp dosha get cancelled?
In practice it is treated as cancelled when Jupiter or Venus sits in a kendra (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house). The check shows the pattern and whether that cancellation applies.
