Kundli matching, or Guna Milan, is the traditional Vedic compatibility check for marriage. It scores eight kootas — Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi — from both people's Moon nakshatras and Moon signs, out of a maximum of 36 gunas.
How many gunas should match for marriage?
Traditionally 18 out of 36 is the minimum, 25–32 is very good and 33 or more is excellent. The total is a starting point: which kootas scored low, and whether a dosha is cancelled, matter as much as the number.
What are Nadi dosha and Bhakoot dosha?
Nadi dosha occurs when both people share the same nadi (8 points lost); Bhakoot dosha when the Moon signs sit 2/12, 5/9 or 6/8 from each other (7 points lost). Classical rules cancel both in specific cases, such as the same sign lord or friendly sign lords, and JyotiMitra applies those cancellations.
Can I do kundli matching by name only?
Name-based matching guesses the nakshatra from the first syllable of the name, so it often differs from the real one. JyotiMitra matches from the actual birth charts, which needs both people's date, time and place of birth.
Is the exact birth time needed for kundli matching?
Less than for a full kundli. The score depends on the Moon's nakshatra, which changes about once a day, so an approximate time usually gives the same result. If the Moon was near a nakshatra boundary, the time can change the score.
